The key to unlocking it all – Meditation

Fear, ego and meditation

Today I have been reading a range of books, as is my nature. Flitting from one to the next, I always have multiple books on the go, usually around the same subject as I like to get a range of different views in one go. It’s almost like hosting my own tv show and asking all the authors what their thoughts are on a particular topic.

And the topic that showed up today, was fear. That endless, constant nagging fear you get when something just isn’t working. It could be in your career, your relationship or your finances. You know that fear that stops in you in your tracks or wakes you up at night. That kind of fear that makes you angry, upset and start projecting or lashing out at others.

That fear, according to the many books, all simultaneously state that the fear comes from the ego. It’s about control. How we feel when we are out of control, or our ego can’t handle the fact that events bigger than it is in charge. The way to release this is firstly to acknowledge your fear, feel where it is sitting in your body and then to breathe in and out until you release the pain.

Then once you’ve done this, move onto a simple meditation. If you’re not a regular meditating, try and get into the practice. There are so many wonderful and free meditations available and it doesn’t matter whether its simply a bell or a fully guided meditation. Just get into the habit of meditating daily.

Meditation is our path back to where we came from, our connection to the spirit, re-connection with our own souls. If you imagine as a baby we are born into the world and our souls are like a crisp, white clean cloth. As we grow up and experience the ups and downs of life that beautiful crisp, white clean cloth slowly becomes more and more dirty and grey.  But each time you meditate, it’s like dipping that cloth into a bowl of clean water, and it comes back up just a little bit cleaner. You see the more you meditate, the more you get into the habit of meditating the cleaner your soul can become. And don’t worry about the mechanics of it too much, they come with time. Just enjoy it and remember it’s called a ‘practice’ for a reason.

The power of your tribe

Who are you?

Jim Rohn says you are the sum of the five people you hang out the most with. Have you ever actually looked at who you spend your time with? Are they people who inspire you, encourage you, wish you the best? Or are they people who moan, make you feel bad and want you to stay within certain boundaries.

Today, it dawned on me that my circle is in need of a shake up. I am acutely aware that I am out of sorts, I have so many high ambitions of things that I absolutely must get done but there just don’t seem to be enough hours in the day to do them.  As I looked at my core group I realised that as much as there is love there, there isnt really much in the way of support. And I have quietly been stepping further and further away from engaging with them. By doing this I have increasingly found myself isolated, admittedly by my own doing. But realised I do need to ask for help and not simply expect people to offer it!

What happens when you swallow your pride?
So today, I swallowed my pride and reached out to someone to tell them I was overwhelmed and that I didn’t know what to do. Within a few short messages solutions started to flow, a way out was shown to me and the relief poured over me like a wave!

I then reached out to my group and asked if anyone would be able to support me in my vision for Chicks Who Lift and within moments replies started flooding in of support. Today I truly felt the love flow. Of course, if your message is one that people identify with, then people are willing to help.

But I honestly felt so ashamed to be asking, as if as a woman I absolutely HAD to do everything myself. But at the same time I know it’s this mentality that struck me down with chronic fatigue so many times.

In order to strike a balance in life I believe you not only need to ensure the right people are around you but that also you know WHEN to ask for their support. Today, I am so happy I did just that.

So today’s advice for you

There is no shame in asking for help
Have the right people around you, who encourage you
Be willing to be vulnerable
If your message comes from a place of love and not fear people will want to help you for free
Much love folks!
